Pathology: Perinatal & Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship
The Division of Anatomic Pathology, NorthShore University HealthSystem offers a one-year advanced training program/focused fellowship experience in Diagnostic Gynecologic and Perinatal Pathology. The Northshore Surgical Pathology laboratory performs more than 68,000 surgical pathology accessions per year, including over 10,000 gynecologic specimens and 2000 placental and POC specimens. These include in-house material from routine gynecology and gynecologic oncology services as well as consultation cases. 50-60 perinatal autopsies are performed each year. Fellows are expected to present at weekly Gynecologic Oncology Tumor Board conferences and to attend weekly Perinatal Conference and monthly Perinatal Quality Conference. Fellows will also supervise residents in the gross room, participate in frozen section services, perform and supervise perinatal autopsies. Roughly equal time will be spent on each service and ample time will be allotted for research. This program is directed by William Watkin, M.D., Director of Anatomic Pathology and Linda M. Ernst M.D Section Head of Perinatal Pathology.
Requirements: MD degree, license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois and completion of pathology core requirements (3 yrs of AP or 4 yrs of combined AP/CP training).
Stipends: Stipends are commensurate with the level of postgraduate training in Pathology. Also provided is a professional development fund.
