Molecular Pathologist: Assistant Professor /Associate Professor / Professor: Children's Hospital of Colorado, University of Colorado School of Medicine Department of Pathology

We are recruiting a full-time faculty member, any rank, to primarily provide molecular pathology services, with a focus on molecular oncology. The Precision Diagnostics Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital Colorado performs testing on over 5000 specimens per year and serves the Children’s Hospital, UC Health University of Colorado Hospital, and additional regional hospitals. The lab performs testing for over 1400 next-generation sequencing (NGS) cancer cases per year and is in the process of expanding NGS offerings for both oncology and genetics. On-campus collaborations exist with the Colorado Molecular Correlates Laboratory, which performs clinical molecular testing at the University of Colorado Hospital, and the Colorado Genetics Laboratory, which performs all campus cytogenetics testing.

The successful candidate will be certified by the American Board of Pathology (or equivalent) in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, with additional board certification/eligibility in Molecular Pathology. Additional certification in another area of pathology is highly desirable but not required. Pediatric pathology, cytopathology, and hematopathology certification would nicely complement the current practice. Experience with NGS platforms, cancer genomics, and interpretation and reporting of molecular oncology results will be important skills. Depending on experience and interest, opportunities exist for more hands-on participation in expansion of NGS testing, including integration with laboratory information systems and expansion of partnerships with clinical teams (tumor boards, etc). Responsibilities also include participation in teaching of rotating residents, Molecular Genetic Pathology fellows, and Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellows.

Children’s Hospital Colorado, affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine, is an independently owned and administered not-for-profit hospital system with 479 inpatient beds, that is consistently ranked in the top 10 amongst pediatric hospitals nationwide. Pathology and laboratory medicine at CHCO is provided by 10 subspecialized pathologists (many of whom hold multiple board certifications), clinical scientists, and numerous highly skilled medical technologists and staff. Faculty include 7 board certified pediatric pathologists, 2 molecular pathologists, 2 hematopathologists, 1 neuropathologist, 2 transfusion medicine physicians, and 1 chemical pathologist. The anatomic pathology service processes over 7000 surgical pathology specimens, with network of care expansion occurring within the next months to include an additional 2-3000 specimens. Each year over 600 bone marrow biopsies, over 300 neuropathology specimens, and 50-70 autopsies are received. The clinical laboratory performs high complexity testing with a comprehensive testing menu, processing over 1.2 million specimens each year.
