Hematopathologist Opportunity in Fort Worth, Texas
Cook Children’s, in Fort Worth, Texas, has an opportunity for a part time hematopathologist. Duties include shared flow cytometry call and shared holiday coverage. Cook Children’s Medical Center is a freestanding, state-of-the art, 443-bed children’s hospital, continually recognized as one of the Nation’s premier private not-for-profit children’s hospitals, and it is situated as the western anchor of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. As part of an integrated system of specialty clinics, physician offices and home care, Cook Children’s has approximately one million patient visits annually and the campus and its programs are currently undergoing significant expansion due to marked population growth in its referral area.
The primary focus of the institution is on extraordinary patient care with a very close consultative relationship between the department and all the clinical services. The ideal candidate will have an MD or DO degree (or equivalent), be board-eligible or board certified in anatomic or anatomic/clinical pathology and in hematopathology. Board certification/eligibility in pediatric pathology is a plus. The candidate must be eligible for licensing in Texas.
The department includes three pediatric pathologists, a dual-boarded pediatric pathologist/ hematopathologist, a dual-boarded pediatric pathologist/molecular pathologist, one part time hematopathologist, a PhD clinical microbiologist and a PhD clinical chemist. Approximately 7000 surgical specimens, 1300 cytologies, 250-300 bone marrows, 150 flow cytometries and 20-30 autopsies are performed each year. We are housed in a fairly new state of the art laboratory. The program supports a very active hematology-oncology department with a busy bone marrow transplant service. There is a highly regarded neurosciences program with a large epilepsy center, an intraoperative MRI, ten neurologists, dedicated neuroradiology and four full-time pediatric neurosurgeons. There is also a pediatric stroke program supported by an endowed chair in coagulation and a neurointensive care unit. Gastrointestinal biopsies account for more than 30% of the total surgical pathology volume. A very active cardiology/cardiac surgery service includes four cardiac surgeons,15 full time pediatric cardiologists and a cardiovascular intensive care unit. The Cook Children’s system also includes very busy pediatric and neonatal intensive care units.
